Employee Spotlight – Monica Lang

MonicaGet to know Monica Lang, Vice President of Engineering/Quality for 18 years.

Q: “What do you do in your role?”

A: “As the VP of Engineering, I oversee the six engineers in the department, and a little bit of everything else! I enjoy being a jack of all trades and working with other departments to help out where I can by utilizing my experience.”

Q: “What is the best part of your job?”

A: “The diversity of what I get to do is one of the best parts of my job. I get to work on a breadth of different projects every day, whether it’s in engineering, working on a machine, implementing software, or a completely new project. This job allows me to make things and see them in action, which is both rewarding and fulfilling. When I see something I’ve designed in the real world, I think it is super cool.”

Q: “What is your favorite thing about working at MWG?”

A: “The people I get to work alongside are my favorite part. We really are a family here. I enjoy learning about my coworkers both inside and outside of work. We support and encourage each other when we need it because we depend on each other as a family. It makes coming to work every day easy.”

Q: “What has been your favorite project so far?”

A: “A few years ago I designed fixtures, and we still use the same design across many customers to this day. I really enjoyed the challenge and found it was pretty simple and easy to design, and now we get to see it in action for several customers.”

Q: “What has been one of your proudest moments working at MWG?”

A: “I was proud of our 9 summer student interns last year. It was great to see everyone working together and learning more about manufacturing. They made such a positive impact on the business and they were able to experience a trade before graduating high school. Now I work with the community to share our experience and why it is important to hire high schoolers, especially during this difficult time for recruitment.”

Q: “What do you enjoy doing in your free time?”

A: “My family and I love taking our boat out on Lake Cumberland and enjoying the outdoors.”

Q: “What piece of advice would you give young women who are interested in starting a career in engineering?”

A: “I want everyone to know that engineering is a great way to express your creativity. You can design, build, manufacture, test and so much more. There is a lot to do within this field and you can really do whatever you set your mind to. I think my job is really fun and I encourage more women to explore options in both manufacturing and engineering.
